Concord Cannons Capture First New England Championship!!

Clutch performances from key players was the theme this year for the 2011 U13 Concord Cannons, and that theme carried over into the New England Regional AAU Championships for the New Hampshire squad.

Bolstered by the offensive prowess of shortstop Evan Vulgamore (who this season produced a .546/.618/.849 line to go along with 28 extra base hits and 57 Runs Batted In) and outfielder Colin Stevens (.400/.511./.471), the Cannons outscored their opponents 60-28 over six games during their championship run.  In the clinching game, Vulgamore notched a hit in all four at bats, while driving in three runs.  Stevens followed up with a 2-for-4 performance, a run, and two RBIs of his own.

On the other side of the ball, pitcher Anthony Tur (14-0) led a dominant rotation all season long with a microscopic 1.82 Earned Run Average over 79 innings pitched, scattering just 46 hits to go along with 77 strikeouts.  That production continued into the tournament, where Tur had a key victory in the fourth game, holding the opposition scoreless over five innings.  Beck Stecher picked up two victories in relief over the weekend, while Andrew Roberge, Dave Nelson, and Vulgamore each recorded wins along the way.
